About us and how we verify

Last reviewed:

Who we are

Watcher24 is an independent project that helps Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking families recognize scams by phone, WhatsApp, text message and fake links. We publish as a team, without personal bylines.

This blog is free and has no ads. Its goal is that you and your family know what to do before you answer, pay or share a code.

How we write our articles

Drafts are written with the help of artificial intelligence, and a person on the team reviews them before publication. The English and Portuguese versions are adapted from the Spanish one.

Every article shows the date it was published and, when we update it, the date of its last review.

How we verify official phone numbers

We only publish a phone number if it appears on at least two official pages of the institution itself: its website, or a guide or document it publishes. Next to each number we link the page that shows it and note the date we checked it.

Numbers we found in only one source are not published until we confirm them. And remember: a call that shows an official number does not prove it is that institution, because scammers can fake the number on your screen. These numbers are for you to call.

How we prepare scam examples

We write the message and call examples ourselves, based on alerts published by police, regulators, banks and consumer protection offices. They are not copied messages: they summarize the script each alert describes, with no real names, accounts or numbers, and we link the original alert.

Corrections

If you find an outdated phone number or a detail that does not match its source, write to us at admin@watcher24.app. We review every report and correct the article.
